Hazmat Security Awareness Training Required for All Employees
Security Awareness Training is the hazmat training element that DOT compliance inspectors ask for is the one shops forget the most. 49 CFR 172.704(a)(4): every hazmat employee needs security awareness training. New hires within 90 days of employment. Recurrent every three years. It gets forgotten because it isn't function-specific, and is not HAZMAT related, so it tends to be forgotten. Then the inspector asks, and the shop that trains HAZMAT Awareness perfectly has no certificate on record for employees. This can result in hefty fines. Lack of training carries a minimum fine of $617 per employee, per day! One hour of training closes a gap that can save you thousands of dollars in fines. Or class meets all DOT requirements for training, ensuring your employees are trained.
